FAQ’s

Welcome to your Japan travel guide! Japan is a beautiful, safe, and fascinating country, but its unique culture and systems can sometimes be surprising. To help you prepare for an unforgettable trip, we’ve compiled the most common questions our guests ask before arriving in the Land of the Rising Sun.

General Preparation & Weather

Japan is a year-round destination, each season offering a unique charm:

  • Spring (Mar-May): Famous for Cherry Blossoms (Sakura) and pleasant weather.

  • Autumn (Sep-Nov): Stunning fall foliage (Koyo) with cool, clear days.

  • Winter (Dec-Feb): Perfect for snow festivals, skiing, and hot springs (Onsen).

  • Summer (Jun-Aug): Vibrant summer festivals (Matsuri) and fireworks, though it can be quite hot and humid.

Layering is key, as temperatures can vary between outdoors and air-conditioned/heated indoors. Most importantly, pack highly comfortable walking shoes. Unlike many other countries where you might travel mostly by car, exploring Japan involves a significant amount of walking (often 10,000 to 20,000 steps a day) and navigating train station stairs. Also, wear shoes that are easy to slip on and off, as you might need to remove them at some locations.

Food & Dietary Requirements

While traditional Japanese cuisine relies heavily on fish stock (dashi) and meat, the landscape is changing rapidly.

  • Major cities like Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto now have excellent Indian restaurants serving authentic veg and non-veg food.

  • Dedicated Vegan and Vegetarian cafes are becoming common.

  • Rest assured, when you use Travel Your Dreams services, we take care and do our best to meet specific dietary requirements like food during fasting, Jain food etc.,

While we say Yes! Unless you are very particular about what to eat and because of health issues, avoid carrying food and travel light. Travel Your Dreams can arrange specific foods as per your request (like theplas, khakhras, or poha/upma). Japanese customs strictly prohibit bringing in fresh fruits, vegetables, seeds, and any meat products. Please ensure all food items you bring are commercially packaged and sealed.

Money, Connectivity & Payments

While Japan is increasingly cashless (especially in malls, hotels, and convenience stores), cash is still king in rural areas, small local restaurants, street food stalls, and for temple donations. We recommend bringing a mix of both. You can easily withdraw Yen from ATMs at 7-Eleven or FamilyMart convenience stores using your international debit/forex cards.

Very soon Japan is going to. accept UPI payments.

Most of the tourist places and hotels in Japan have Forex ATMs. We recommend to exchange money at Airport as it is fast and quick. At this moment it is difficult to exchange INR.

Free public Wi-Fi is available in hotels, cafes, and major stations, but it can be spotty on the move. We highly recommend purchasing an eSIM before you travel, or renting a Pocket Wi-Fi / physical Tourist SIM upon arrival at the airport.

Getting Around & Luggage Logistics

Train stations are crowded, and luggage space on bullet trains is strictly limited. We highly recommend using Japan’s famous Takuhaibin (Luggage Forwarding Service). You can safely send your heavy suitcases directly from your first hotel to your next hotel for a small fee, allowing you to travel hands-free with just a small overnight bag! Travel Your dreams will help you with hour luggage.
